In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.
—Albert Camus
It must be remembered that tripe such as this—found on all too many inspirational posters of the 1970s—was authored by one whose most important work, The Myth of Sisyphus, begins with a serious debate as to whether the reader should commit suicide. Blocking that incongruity from his mind, the artist here merely attempts to capture that which still appears green in the midst of winter. Suggestions of holly and berries beneath a thin layer of snow flakes adorn this simple but effective work.
