Early in the Reagan administration, when the FDA attempted to legislate that ketchup could be counted as a vegetable in school lunch programs, little could those behind the initiative imagine that almost 30 years later it would inspire this artist’s portrayal of snow-encrusted bluebirds, all merrily shitting both ketchup and mustard onto the grave of presidential eras many would like to forget. A happy, political-consciousness-raising painting for those both young and young at heart, this painting would befit the outhouse at an off-the-grid, gay pagan commune.
