Recombinant DNA continues to escalate in the hands of profit-seeking multinational corporations who alter the genetic code of the foods we eat, while stem cell research remains stymied by antiquated religious tenets formulated during an age when the earth was thought flat, the sun certainly revolved about it, and the center of the universe was an unremarkable town in the Middle East. Here the artist envisions the eventual splicing of a chicken with a pineapple: a creature whose torso is in fact an enormous retrovirus resembling HIV. As the mutant marches forward across the land, it dribbles virions along its path, seeding a dystopian future for our posterity, to whom we bequeath a life filled with creatures of fearful symmetry.
