The explosion of a neutron star is depicted with textural details reminiscent of eggs thrown sloppily on the griddle at 1 a.m. at any Waffle House along the U.S. Interstate Highway System. Parallels with the horrors of an intergalactic bypass system are not intended by the artist, whose main motives here were the creation of an appropriate headboard for a bed meant mainly for monkey business. A delightful painting for the home or office, Splat will confound the eye that scans it for meaning that scratches any surface.
